It’s wild chickory. It grows all along the roadsides here in Pennsylvania in mainly July. It can be an even more intense, almost neon lavender blue sometimes. It’s a very attractive weed about 2 feet tall. There are millions of them in bloom now (August) but starting to fade. They are very hardy and grow well in bad soil along the roads, even surviving the salt that gets
scooped up and piled with the snow atop their dormant plants in the winters we have here (near Pittsburgh).

What is the name of this blue flower? Does it grow on a shrub or tree?

I’m not expert at identifying flowers but I think it was a zinnia. It grows as a small bush.
